Catch22 young person produces street art for Upfest

27 January 2012

Catch22 young person Josh Vaughan worked with street artist Squirl as part of a two-week apprenticeship.

Together they produced a piece to be displayed at Upfest, the largest street art festival in Europe. The exhibition held in the UpFest gallery in Bristol on the 27 January is attended by artists, viewers and buyers from around the world.

Josh who attends the A2B Foundation Learning course in Folkestone at Kent Learning and Employability service says:

‘I like working with Squirl because I’m learning a new style of creating artwork. Before this I was having little bits of work here and there. I hope after this I can get inspired to try making a living through artwork.’

Squirl, a street artist and illustrator says:

‘Josh has offered a massive amount of assistance, which has culminated in a large body of multi-layered stencil pieces being ready to show.

Josh has been a pleasure to work with and although I have been teaching him bits and pieces, he has motivated and inspired me to develop my work further through his fresh enthusiasm for street art and graffiti.’

Andrew Rist, Catch22 Course Leader is working with Josh to support his transition into employment and Squirl hopes to work with Josh again in the future.
