The 2011 expedition

Last year 32 young people took in a land and sea expedition across Norway. The project was known as Project Rough Seas.

Ten days of trekking and climbing in the Norwegian mountains, followed by a two-week adventure on board the Stavros Niarchos Tall Ship. Where they were required to crew the ship, day and night, and study for the RYA Competent Crew Certificate. The route home, through the North Sea will ended with a journey up the River Thames and under Tower Bridge.

Throughout the programme young adventurers were assessed and mentored. The personal journeys of each of the young people is a testament to the impact the Project has.

'It taught me the importance of working hard to achieve something and how much more important it feels beacuse of that hard work. I went onto the ship one person and came off it a new man with a new look on life... it opened eyes to a new ways of life.'
Daniel Raggett.

Two months after returning 90% of young people were in education, training or volunteering placements.

The photos below show the proud return up the River Thames.
