Examples of replication
The following fictional examples are for illustrative purposes only, to give examples of how the replication of a proven intervention might be delivered.
Example 1
Charity A has been running a programme working with 10 to 14-year-olds in North Leicester for four years. The intervention has been rigorously evaluated and the findings published. Alongside delivery in North Leicester, Charity A plans to replicate the programme in parts of Nottingham and Derby, reaching several new communities and over 500 additional young people per year. Charity A will need to form a partnership with two locally-based charities in Nottingham and Derby in order to reach the target audience and to employ delivery staff. It will also need to work closely with the relevant local authorities.
Example 2
Charity B has worked with children and young people at risk of offending in North Wales for over fifteen years. Charity B is aware of an evidence-based programme that has been running in Canada for some time for which numerous experimental evaluations have demonstrated a significant impact on child outcomes. Charity B would like to import the programme and replicate it in North Wales. Charity B has been in communication with the Canadian centre running the programme to understand what would be needed to replicate the programme with fidelity.
Example 3
Between 2005 and 2009, Charity C was delivering an intervention for 8 to 14-year-olds in three London boroughs, which had been externally evaluated with positive results. Delivery ceased when funding ran out. Charity C would now like to re-establish delivery, and replicate the programme across a further six London boroughs.
Example 4
Social enterprise X is currently delivering an evidence-based early intervention programme with 150 8 to 12-year-olds in Glasgow. Rigorous evaluations have demonstrated a positive impact on child outcomes. Social enterprise X wants to replicate the programme across a number of communities in Northern Ireland, and plans to establish a new office base to do so.
Example 5
Local authority Y is working with a number of voluntary and community sector partners in the East Midlands to deliver a proven intervention for 8 to 14-year-olds. The partnership would now like to replicate the intervention across local authorities in the West Midlands, and plans to establish local partnerships between local authorities and the VCS to do so.
