NCAS

20 July 2010

The National Care Advisory Service (NCAS)  - supported by Catch22 - is the national advice, support and development service for children in and from care (age 13 to 25) and those who work with them.

NCAS aims

  1. To promote improvement in outcomes for young people in and from care by supporting work at a national, regional and local level.
  2. To support the specific implementation of the Care Matters agenda for young people in and from care across the country.
  3. To support corporate parents, local authorities and others to empower young people to be fully involved in the design, development and delivery of successful services and outcomes.
  4. To be a centre of excellence and source of expertise on transitions issues for young people in and from care.
  5. To build and draw on our evidence base, including the work of our partners and other organisations, to inform our messages.
  6. To work locally and regionally to influence the national and international agenda on transitions and leaving care.

The difference we make

'I know I am achieving something and that the end result will ultimately benefit me for my future and mean I can do what I want to do. I am also making a positive difference for other people's lives. It's hard work but at the end of each day I have a sense of achievement.'
Young care leaver.

'NCAS played an important role in helping the previous Government to identify the issues faced by care leavers in accessing education, employment and training opportunities by sharing their invaluable knowledge and expertise in this area. The report Realising Young Potential is an excellent example of how government can work with the voluntary and community sector to improve the lives of some of the most disadvantaged groups in society.'
