Bespoke Services: Peer Listening and Mentoring

Certified training for students to become volunteer Peer Listeners and play a valuable role in their school supporting vulnerable younger students

13 to 18-years-old | Available in Essex and East London

Being a Peer Listener enables older students to play a valuable role within their school, allowing vulnerable young students to talk about their problems with other students and without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated by a professional.

Peer Listeners are taught how and when to safeguard young students (including referring them to a link worker when necessary), and about the importance of confidentiality to reassure younger students.

Students will be able to include this volunteering experience on university or college applications and will receive a certificate on completion of the training.

Training includes:

  • what is peer listening?
  • expectations
  • safeguarding
  • child protection
  • confidentiality
  • boundaries
  • bullying
  • scenario games
  • preparation activities
  • keeping a log
  • school bullying policy awareness
  • Catch22 link worker contact information (for ongoing ad hoc support when needed).

‘Thank you so much for today. The Year 8 Peer Counsellors really enjoyed the day of training and considering how young they are I was truly impressed with their maturity and pleasant behaviour.’
Senior member of school staff

‘I think I feel more comfortable to talk in a group and I enjoyed today’s session. I have become more confident and I understand the meaning of confidential.’

Example cost

  • £850 for one-day training with up to 16 students plus ongoing ad hoc support to school staff
