The Livery Advocates Pilot Programme brings Advocates from livery companies together with Catch22 Candidates. Advocates will support Candidates to identify and develop the skills and capacities necessary to be successful in their career. Where the opportunity exists, Advocates will use their ‘social capital’ by advocating on Candidate's behalf to help them get a 'foot in the door' of a career opportunity.
In order for Advocates to best support Candidates, it is important to build a relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. The programme seeks to create a space for participants to share and learn from each other’s experiences.
Advocates will support Candidates to identify, learn, and develop the skills and capacities necessary to meet their career goals. Candidates will learn about charting their career path, defining their purpose, negotiating, accessing funding and resources, and building professional networks.
‘Social Capital’ is a person’s network that provides social support, trust, and reciprocity. In a practical sense, it is often as simple as someone helping you 'get a foot in the door' of a new opportunity. Exploring how Candidates can generate and use their own social capital will be a key part of this programme.
Each year youth unemployment costs the economy over £10 billion in lost output, we see this project as being part of remedying this. We believe that by bringing together social capital, via advocacy to young participants, we may have part of the answer to one of society's big challenges.

There will be six session beginning on Wednesday the 9th of October which will run fortnightly until the 18th of December. Participants are expected to attend all sessions, that said we understand that it's not possible for everyone's diaries to sync so some accommodations can be made.
The aim of this programme is the professional development and success of Candidates. In order for this to be achieved, we will encourage and support both Candidates and Advocates to be open-minded in undertaking a journey of shared experiences, learning, and ultimately, trust.
Candidates will gain an understanding of different professions and find out that a career path doesn’t have to be a straight line. Advocates and Candidates will look at the importance of harnessing their brand to boost their career considering how it is viewed by potential employers or investors.
Candidates will have the amazing opportunity to learn about the Entrepreneurial Mindset from Advocates who will share stories of success and failure, and give insights into what it takes to overcome challenges and achieve their career goals. Remember, an Entrepreneurial Mindset is something anyone can benefit from having!
Whether asking for a raise, pitching for investment, or negotiating with a colleague, a person's skill at managing these complex interactions will decide their level of career success. Advocates and Candidates will share experiences and insights and work together to develop tips and best practices for complex negotiations.
Even the brightest mind will struggle to achieve without a purpose. Here Candidates will work with Advocates to reflect on what they see as their purpose in life. Candidates will focus on passions, what they enjoy doing, what they are skilled at, what would bring meaning to their life, and most importantly how they can be paid for fulfilling their purpose!
This is where participants begin the process of looking at the value and importance of networks, partnerships, and relationships, and how to go about creating or joining various networks. Having gotten to know one another, Advocates and Candidates will begin to make their own connections either in groups or 1:1.
As the final part of the journey, Advocates will support Candidates to create a business or personal plan with a road map to success. If Advocates have decided to support Candidates by advocating on their behalf, then this is the session where that process will be outlined and the basis of an ongoing relationship will be negotiated.
