DismissProviding support and interventions to men who are remanded or convicted at HMP Thameside and identified to be gang-affiliated
On this page
Working as a discreet team within the wider Catch22 team at HMP Thameside, the Gangs service work alongside the Offender Management Unit to identify and support men who are associated with gangs.
Initial engagement identifies any issues related to gang involvement and sets out the support available. Where issues are identified, on-going support is provided to the service user. As part of this work, a range of interventions is explored in order to decrease the impact of gang association and violence within the prison.
Our workers are skilled in engaging a broad range of service users, backed with a good working knowledge of the environments they have come from as well as the issues they may face within prison.
The Catch22 service at HMP Thameside supports prisoners on their caseload towards a positive pro-social future. We can offer identification and screening, one-to-one interventions, conflict resolution and mediation plus interventions such as the R.O.A.D. programme.
Working in partnership with the prison, we identify those who are associated with gangs or serious group offending. We are then able to discuss with the men any areas of risk and conflict, and share this appropriately to promote safety for staff and prisoners within the establishment.
At HMP Thameside, Catch22 delivers a range of services including:
We work with the men who participate in this service to discuss conflicts and issues in a way that enables them to live safely alongside each other in the custodial environment. Mediation following any incidents within the prison is a process valued by operational colleagues and its impact on good order and safety is recognised and commended across the prison.
The team works closely with other agencies, both in and out of the prison, to ensure good quality sharing of relevant information to support the reduction of violence to and by people with convictions.
Thanks for all the support I received whilst being here. I just wanted to let you know I really appreciated all the support and guidance you gave me.
