HMP & YOI Doncaster Offender Management
Support for offenders within custody.
Catch22 offers support for offenders within custody. Case Workers conduct OASys and risk assessments and work closely with Offender Managers in the community to ensure people with convictions receive consistent and integrated support with their assessment and sentence plans.
Catch22 use the following approach to delivering offender management:
- We put relationships at the centre of what we do
Building strong, consistent and trusting relationships with service users is critical to unlocking their potential to make positive changes to their lives. 82% of service users stated that we took time to build a relationship with them and this had a positive effect on their reoffending (Catch22 Impact Report 2013/14).
- We are driven by results
We judge our success based on the transformation we achieve in our service users and their future prospects. In the first year of Payment by Results we achieved our target and reduced reoffending by 5.7% (Ministry of Justice report, August 2014).
- We are fearless and original
We work with partners and commissioners to create and deliver innovative solutions tailored to service users’ needs. We have a wealth of knowledge of the support that is available for service users and pride ourselves on sourcing further support where needed. We have an immense directory of all the partners that we currently work with; this is an ever evolving directory as new partners come on board
- Our staff are passionate about their social mission
We pride ourselves on our professionalism, skills and expertise. In an internal needs analysis, 64% of service users stated that they were happy with their relationship with their case worker (January 2015). Comments included: ‘always happy to help me sort out my issues’, ‘was helpful and easy to talk to’, ‘I’m very happy with my Case Manager’, ‘[my Case Manager] helped sort out housing issues, always there to give me advice when needed’.
Catch22 at HMP Doncaster has exceeded contractual targets in Accommodation, Employment, Training and Education since taking over the Offender Management team in October 2011.
Basic Custody Screenings
To ensure the needs of a person with a conviction are identified on reception into custody, the Catch22 team completes Part 1 of the Basic Custody Screening process within the first 72 hours. The Community Rehabilitation Company completes Part 2 of the Basic Custody Screening in order to develop a resettlement plan.
Veterans in custody
Bespoke services to veterans in custody (VIC) have been delivered since 2012 as part of the holistic package of offender management and re-settlement support.
Facilitated by Catch22 volunteer mentors who are former armed forces personnel, VIC peer support groups offer a forum for VICs to discuss common experiences and issues with like-minded peers. Volunteers include four former Doncaster prisoners (and veterans) who now positively contribute their time to supporting others. Mentors also work with Catch22 to identify and engage veterans at the prison induction and encourage them to join the support network.
