Our approach

Our specialist Youth Workers are based in A&E departments and work as part of the multi‑disciplinary team supporting young people who come to hospital because of self-harm. Youth Workers meet young people at pivotal moments, offering support that helps them feel safe and understood. They provide emotional and practical support both in hospital and after discharge, helping young people feel comfortable and connected to the care around them.

We aim to create a safe, trusting environment where young people feel able to talk openly, engage with healthcare professionals, and take positive steps to improve their wellbeing and regain a sense of safety.

Support continues in the community, where Youth Workers work alongside young people to develop a personalised care plan focused on reducing self‑harm and supporting the young person to build confidence and resilience. Our practice is youth‑led and culturally competent, ensuring every young person feels respected, valued, and understood.
